The Black Stars of Ghana completed their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Sunday, November 12 with a photocopied results having drawn 1-1 with the Pharaohs of Egypt in front of a packed 15,000 capacity Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
Yes, the Black Stars will not be at the Mundial for the first time in twelve years after booking three consecutive appearances – Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014.
Unlike the other nations in Group E, Ghana used three different venues – Tamale, Kumasi, and Cape Coast for its home matches but nonetheless recorded three identical results on the road.
The Black Stars were held to a goalless drawn game by the Cranes of Uganda in their first home game at the Tamale Sports Stadium. It is worthy to note here however that Avram Grant was the head coach of the Black Stars in Ghana’s first two games.
Meanwhile, James Kwesi Appiah, who took over from Avram Grant as the head coach of the Black Stars could not also muster a single win on home soil, playing draw with Congo [1-1] at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as well as Egypt [1-1] at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
