Coach of Black Stars B team, Maxwell Konadu has explained his reason for benching Winful Cobbinah in Ghana’s opening match of the 2017 West Africa Football Union [WAFU] tournament against the Gambia.
The Black Stars B kicked the competition off on Saturday, September 09, 2017 at the Cape Coast Stadium with 1-0 win over the Gambia but not under strange situation as referee Boukari Ouedraogo from Burkina Faso awarded the host [Ghana] in the 94th minute.
But speaking to the media in the post match interview Maxwell Konadu told the press that he didn’t field the Hearts of Oak skillful midfielder [Winful Cobbinah] because he didn’t want some players to feel more superior than others.
“I wanted to try something new today and I don’t want some players to feel more special than others.”
Vincent Atinga’s lone goal from the spot secured Ghana qualification into the group phase of the competition, which will take place from September 14-19.
