New WBO Super Bantamweight champion, Isaac Dogboe, says unifying the titles in his weight division is his next major target in the sport.

On April 28, Dogboe rose to the top of the bantamweight class after defeating defending champion, Jesse Magdaleno, in the United States and already he has his eyes set the other champions who have the WBA, WBC and IBF belts.

Daniel Roman (24–2–1–0 with 9 KOs) of the United States has the WBA title while Rey Vargas (31–0–0–0 with 22 KOs) of Mexico has the WBC belt. Ryosuke Iwasa of Japan (25–2–0–0 with 16 KOs) of Japan currently wears the IBF title.

In an interview, Dogboe spoke on whether he would give Magdelano a rematch and his new association with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions.

“Any rematch with Magdelano has not been set officially but now, I am signed with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions and they are looking at putting me out there in August.

“After that fight in August, we will go for a unification bout with the other major sanctioning bodies in the division. We do not know the date yet but that was the discussion Bob Arum had with my father.

“The contract is for a year and after that period, it will be reviewed and if things are good, we will discuss further.”

Dogboe went on to speak on how important signing with Bob Arum would be for his young boxing career.

“After the fight with Magdelano, Bob Arum said ‘we like this kid. He is an all-action fighter and he is good for television.’ I think ESPN is huge.

“The other day, they showed us their numbers in terms of viewers of the bout with Magdelano and they were about a million views.

“This shows that we are on our way to becoming the first Pay-Per-View from Africa. The contract with Bob Arum is for three bouts.”
