Hon. Mohammed Adjei Sowah, Mayor of Accra has disclosed that Ghana will change through sports because many talents abound and the youth are looking for opportunities to excel.

Speaking to the media and members of the True Hustlers Tug of War team at this office when the winners of the first community Tug of War champions called on him, he commended the organisers, Dreamland Sports Plus for their vision, mission and organisational skills and being able to control the large crowd that attended the event dubbed ‘Who Rules Chorkor’ on Sunday November 4.

The Mayor expressed joy any time he sees the youth of Ghana engaged in physical activity and promised building basketball courts in some communities in the capital.

He said already he is involved in swimming as the chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Association and he is planning of staging a national swimming competition.

Hon. Adjei Sowah assured that his outfit will support the lesser known sports and help the youth to get employed through sports.

He noted that sportsmen and women have some characteristics like skill, team work, discipline and comradeship, which are all needed in building a great nation.

He urged the Ghana Tug of War Association to spread the sports to other places and engage the youth in positive activities.

According to the Mayor, sports can create many jobs, and it is time government supports sportsmen and sports organisers.

The president of Ghana Tug of War Association and Youth Coordinator of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Emmanuel Olla Williams announced that other communities would be involved like Abossey Okai, James Town and Avenor who have their turn on December 8 with Koforidua on December 22.

Mr. Saka Acquaye, deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) advised the youth to do sports as there are so many disciplines to choose from.
