England has handed Birmingham the candidate right for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The race for the bidding right was between Liverpool and Birmingham for which the latter won eventually, but England is likely to face competition from Malaysia [Kuala Lumpur].

Birmingham’s bid includes extensive renovation of the Alexander Stadium, where athletics plus the opening and closing ceremonies would be held.

Birmingham will host the IAAF World Indoor Championships next March and the inaugural Birmingham International Marathon, which will also take place in October, along with the Great Birmingham Run.

The Commonwealth Games otherwise known as the British Empire Games will be held in Australia, Queensland from April 04 to 15, 2018.
