A brace from Thomas Abbey and a goal from Kwame Kizito on Sunday was all but enough for Hearts of Oak to triumph over Tema Youth at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Despite playing well from the onset, Hearts of Oak first real chance of the game came in the 15th minute when their attacking midfield triumvirate – Patrick Razak, Winful Cobbinah, and Thomas Abbey went in search of the opener, but Thomas Abbey’s volley was saved by Tema Youth goalkeeper Stephen Kweku.
The Phobians [Hearts of Oak] finally broke the deadlock in the 29th minute through Thomas Abbey. Patrick Razak’s ball was handled in the penalty area and just as everyone thought that Vincent Atinga was going to take the spot kick, Thomas Abbey went for the ball and shot Hearts into the lead.
Kwame Kizito scored the second goal for Hearts in the 56th minute with a close range header. Goalkeeper Stephen Kweku committed himself when he came out to punch Winful Cobbinah’s pass to Patrick Razak but his save rather found the lurking Kizito who banged in with a cool finish.
Tema Youth was awarded a penalty in the 86th minute when Leonard Tawiah brought down Tawfik Mohammed in the box to gift Joseph Paintsil the opportunity to pull one back for the visitors through the spot.
Substitute, Paul Acquah saw his audacious strike in the 89th minute flashed off the cross bar, but Thomas Abbey culminated the day with a text book goal as he rounded off three Tema Youth defenders on the road before tweaking one pass Stephen Kweku.
